Moorish archesdrenched in sunshine and spectacular coves of golden sand: Algarve offers a touch of the exotic which attracts visitors again and again.
If one region of Portugal is the Algarve, it stands alone. Its long history under Moorish control, it's climate --
more typically Mediterranean and its abundance
of fine sandy beaches endow Algarve with a character so different it could easily be taken as a separate country.

Communication is by road but there is a railway line running from Vila Real do Santo Antonio in the eastern Algarve to Lagos in the west so that links to the line running
to Lisbon and the north. The old "EN125" main road runs along the whole coast and has now been greatly replaced by the new parallel motorway "A22" (also known as
the Via do Infante), starting at the border of Spain and stretching west to Lagos. Close to Albufeira it joins with the motorway to Lisbon. This motorway will take visitors
from the spanish border in the east to the historic town of Lagos in the west in a little over one hour driving, thus making the whole Algarve very easily accessible.

The international airport in Lisbon can be reached within hours from Albufeira and the international airport of Faro lies conveniently in the middle of the Algarve coastline 2.
There are about 100 sandy attractive beaches washed by the Atlantic Ocean and due to the maritime shelf and water currents the sea temperature can be surprisingly
warm, even in some winter months. Located on the tip of Europe with the vast ocean of the Atlantic as its southern and western border, this position gives the viable region
possibly the most unpolluted climate in the European continent. In the Algarve, there is a beach waiting for every one. Most beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag for
